Thanks for that. I did not realize that the GCR was such a hot button topic until i started working under an association and with association funded staff. Since i have moved to the Northwest i have heard quite a few people "questioning each other’s motives and assuming the worst about those with whom we differ." I think a lot of people lash out because it affects them personally (aka funding). Yet it also hurts me personally to hear such baseless accusations against some of the men whose character i have grown to admire and respect over the years.
Call them wrong but do not call them liars.

Dr. Finn, an excellent article. I hope all involved will take heed. However, unless we find some way to revive the 80% of SBC churches that are plateaued or declining, I have trouble seeing the results the GCR anticipates. I hope I'm wrong, but I fear I'm not. The resurgence will have to begin in the local church no matter what we decide in Orlando.

Nathan.

I agree 1000%.

We must have consensus. Which means that all stakeholders have to be in the loop.

Thanks Nathan. I read your articles often, though I seldom respond. As always, you seem to put in words what so many of us feel in our hearts. Keep it up!

Great post, Nathan. There's a book that expounds on The Great Commission vs. The Great Commandment challenge- It's called, "I'm OK- You're Not: The Message We're Sending Unbelievers and Why We Should Stop" by John Shore. Though some of it may come off as non-SBC fare, there are some excellent points throughout. One of the most telling aspects of the book is the inclusion of an "ouch" section at the end of each chapter. It offers considerable insight into some of the negative results of proclaiming the Truth at the expense of love.

Well said, Nathan. Thanks for the honest, timely reminder that we are on the same team and we have a lot of work to do. Friendly fire is never a good thing. The cause of the Gospel and Kingdom advancement is worth the hard work it will take in creating a renewed culture that is built on God's Truth and mutual trust.
