Oct 31st, 2011 by Daniel Akin

Question: Just what are your thoughts on Calvinism? Exactly what do you believe and think?
Reply #1: I appreciate the questions very much. I am often asked my thoughts about this issue, and I am more than happy to share my perspective. This is a complex question, and so I will take several posts to respond. Hopefully, I can bring some clarity to the issue and even help move the agenda forward for the glory of … [Read More]

Book Notice: JD Greear’s “Gospel”

Oct 28th, 2011 by Bruce Ashford
Gospel

I write this blog to serve notice to our readership that J. D. Greear’s new book Gospel (B&H, 2011) is an explosively powerful little book that expounds the gospel and its implications, and does so with a rare combination of depth, clarity, and eloquence. Gospel is one of the few unique books that will be sold by the truckload to pastors and churches, colleges and seminaries, young and old, Arminian and Calvinist.
Now, to put my … [Read More]

Advance Notice to Seminary and College Students: Exercise!

Oct 27th, 2011 by Alvin Reid

In his fascinating book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century author Thomas Friedman decries how American students have fallen behind other nations in such fields as math and engineering.  At the same time students in the U.S. have excelled at becoming couch potatoes: 65% of Americans are overweight, but this has become an epidemic among young people.  “We are literally killing ourselves,” John Ratey says in his book Spark, adding, … [Read More]

Why All Good Christians Should Celebrate Halloween

Oct 20th, 2011 by georgerobinson

[Editor's Note: The following is a re-post of George Robinson's Sep. 28, 2010 blog.]
October 31st.  For most Americans this date means one thing: **Halloween.**  Costumes, candy and trick-or-treaters spending to the tune of $2.5 billion making this holiday second only to Christmas in marketing revenue.  But good Christians don’t celebrate Halloween.  Or do they?  Some Protestants may prefer to call it Reformation Day, for after all, that is the date … [Read More]

Q&A 8: Why Are So Many Men So Immature?

Oct 15th, 2011 by Daniel Akin

10.4.2011
Question: What do you think stands as the main contributing factor in why many men today seem to be less mature than the generations of old? What do you feel are the spiritual applications?
Reply: (by Danny Akin and Alvin Reid): This is an excellent question and one that is quite relevant and extremely important for our times. When we see beer commercials mocking the immaturity of young men in our culture, we know that we … [Read More]

Oct 14th, 2011 by Daniel Akin

10.4.2011
Question: In light of your work with the Great Commission Resurgence, what are some things, other than faithfully giving to our local churches and missions agencies, that we can do to promote giving money to reach unreached people groups worldwide?
Reply:  Rob, I think there are a number of things that you can do that will help promote the Great Commission Resurgence in your particular church. First, do encourage your people to continue to give to … [Read More]
