Tony Merida’s “Proclaiming Jesus”

This will probably be the best $3.99 you’ve ever spent. We at BtT wish to make you aware of the opportunity to purchase a new E-Book, Proclaiming Jesus, written by our very own Tony “T-Bone” Merida. Proclaiming Jesus is a call to teach and preach that which is of first importance: the gospel. In a day in which the gospel is often ignored or assumed or placed as a matter of secondary importance, Proclaiming Jesus calls us back to the apostolic pattern exalting the hero of the Bible in every message. At the heart of Proclaiming Jesus is the belief that the gospel is what everyone needs, and it’s what everyone needs to learn to communicate. Here’s what Tony had to say about the book:

What I’m calling for in this little book is a return to gospel saturated, Christ-exalting exposition. Let’s resolve to make the main thing, the plain thing in our preaching and teaching. Like the early Christians, let’s resolve to not cease “teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ” (Acts 5:42).

Before he died, Paul, the faithful apostle, told his young prodigy, Timothy, “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel” (2 Tim. 2:8). Think about this. Remember Jesus? How could Timothy (and others) forget him? Well, we know from experience that we can forget all kinds of things, like our car keys. We can lose sight of the obvious, the central things in life also. Everyday we must not lose sight of Jesus. I want to say it also in this little book, “Remember Jesus Christ as you preach and teach the Bible.” For we do have something to preach! The tomb is empty and the throne is occupied.

In the following pages, I want to talk about more biblical foundations for doing Christ-centered preaching and teaching. Hopefully the biblical insights, theological convictions, practical suggestions, and personal illustrations will be helpful and edifying. In the first three chapters, I will look closely (but not exclusively) at what Paul says about our proclaiming Jesus in Colossians 1:24-29. In the fourth chapter, I will deal with another means of proclaiming Jesus; namely, the Lord’s Supper. I want to share some benefits of taking the Lord’s Supper weekly in corporate worship.
